New Delhi: In a significant step to promote India’s ancient healthcare heritage, the Delhi Government has announced plans to sponsor Ayurveda start-ups and host a Global Ayurveda Summit in the national capital.

This initiative is aimed at positioning Delhi as a global hub for Ayurvedic innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the All India Ayurvedic Congress, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that Ayurveda is gaining traction worldwide, with countries increasingly turning to India for holistic wellness solutions and authentic Ayurvedic medicines.

She credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching the Ayush Ministry, which has given a national and international platform to India’s traditional medicinal systems.

“The establishment of the All India Institute of Ayurveda in Delhi on the lines of AIIMS is a milestone. Now, we must take it further by organizing a global summit that showcases India’s leadership in Ayurveda,” Gupta said.

The proposed Global Ayurveda Summit in Delhi will bring together global experts, researchers, academicians, and entrepreneurs to discuss innovations, digitization of classical texts, and the future of Ayurveda.

Funding programs for Ayurveda start-ups

The Delhi Government also plans to launch funding programs for Ayurveda start-ups to encourage youth participation and foster innovation in the wellness ecosystem.

Currently, 197 Ayush centres operate in the city, including 55 Ayurveda dispensaries, 25 Unani, and 117 homoeopathy centres. The city also houses three medical colleges and four hospitals that practice Ayurvedic medicine.

To further support this vision, the Delhi Budget 2025–26 has allocated ₹275 crore for the development of alternative medicinal systems, of which ₹100 crore is dedicated to Ayush.

“The world is rediscovering Ayurveda’s power. People disillusioned by allopathy are returning to holistic systems. It is the government’s duty to make Ayurveda, homoeopathy, and other traditional medicines more accessible,” Gupta said while interacting with media.

As the demand for integrative healthcare solutions grows, this initiative by the Delhi Government is expected to fuel innovation and create a sustainable ecosystem for Ayurveda start-ups in India.
